Folk Fun!

A light-hearted concert taking inspiration from folk music both ancient and modern. An eclectic programme from the festival musicians, including Scottish fiddler Donald Grant, returning to the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival by popular demand, and Spanish double-bassist Roberto Carrillo-Garcia, a former Royal Northern Sinfonia member, who trades his bass for a guitar for the evening.

Relaxed, café-style table seating. Refreshments available.

Exhibition: Pamela Harrison (1915-1990)

A Musical Life in letters, pictures and programmes.

The Gould Piano Trio and Robert Plane recorded a CD of chamber music by Pamela Harrison last spring, and they perform two of these works at this year’s festival. Together with Timothy Phillips, the composer’s son, Robert Plane has assembled an exhibition of photos, letter, concert programmes and musical memorabilia celebrating the work of a pioneering woman composer.

In the shadows, something moves. It scurries, it echoes, it calls and – like a spectre or the voice of the soul – it responds. Pierre Boulez’s extraordinary Dialogue de l’ombre double is a true modern classic: a fantastic, haunting conversation between one world-class player and his other self. And when that player is the RWCMD’s own Head of Woodwind Performance, clarinettist Robert Plane, the results are likely to be unforgettable.
